Defending champions Red Wings emerged as the winners of APL Season 5 after defeating team BnB in a nail-biting final match, that was held at Someshwara grounds on March 27.

The most anticipated St Aloysius College, AIMIT Premiere League (APL) consisting of six teams – Monks United, Mystery Legends, Red Wings, Team BnB, Imperial Falcons and Southern Sultans.

The event comprised of 15 leagues, 2 qualifiers, 1 eliminator and 1 final match.

Defending Champions Red Wings over powered Mystery Legends in qualifier-1, while Team BnB won the eliminator match against Southern Sultans and defeated Mystery Legends in qualifier-2 to enter the finals.

The chief guests for the closing ceremony were Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto SJ, Director of AIMIT, Sr Mariette, superior of Aloysian Student Hostel and Arun Kumar Gatty, proprietor Gatty Fitness & Gym.

Akash Shetty of Red Wings was adjudged Man of the Match in the finals. He was also awarded the best bowler of the tournament (Purple Cap) for taking 12 wickets in the tournament.

Sairaj of Team BnB was awarded the Best Batsmen (Orange Cap) and was also awarded the man of the tournament for his brilliant all round performance with the bat as well as the bowling.

The Best Woman cricketer of the tournament was awarded to Nayanaraj of Team BnB for her performance in the tournament.

Rimsal (Mystery Legends), Karthik Shetty (Monks united), Harshith (Red Wings), Joswin (Team BnB), Jeevan (Southern Sultans) and Rahul S Nair (Imperial Falcons) were awarded as emerging players of the season.

Roopesh Adappa and Ravi Ranjan were the official Umpires, Karthik was the scorer for the tournament. John Elton D’souza and Sharavan Shetty were the commentators for the tournament.

Earlier, AIMIT Premier League 2022, the most anticipated cricket tournament was kickstarted by Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto SJ at Aloysius Students Hostel grounds, Someshwara on Saturday, March 26.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest for the event, Fr Pinto said, “It is coincidental that even Indian Premiere League (IPL) is also starting today. But we are starting the tournament before them.” He further added, “Hope in the coming days, more teams in the APL will be added.” He encouraged students to grow in unity forgetting differences as they play cricket.

Another guest for the event, Sr Mariette also wished all the teams to play well.

Fr Melwyn Pinto and Sr Mariette were later escorted to the pitch to inaugurate the event by hitting the ball with the cricket bat. The chief guests met the captains of each team and wished them good luck.

The first match was played between Defending Champions Red Wings and Mystery Legends. Mystery Legends Chased the target score 31 set by Red Wings with seven deliveries to spare.
