To mark the 74th anniversary of India’s ‘tryst with destiny’, St Aloysius College, AIMIT, celebrated the Independence Day on August 15, 2020. The programme began with a prayer song followed by the hoisting of the tricolour by the chief guest of the day, Mrs Sylvia Fernandes, Accounts Manager, AIMIT, in the presence of Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto SJ, Director and the teaching and non-teaching staff of AIMIT. The flag hoisting was followed by the national anthem and a grand salute to the flag.

In her address, Mrs Fernandes commemorated the freedom fighters whose efforts brought freedom to all Indians. “We must always remember the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters such as Mahatma Ganghi, Nehur, Vallabhabhai Patel and others. We must carry forward their legacy and make this country great,” she said. She invited the gathering to pledge to do one’s best and overcome the challenges that we face as a nation, so that we become the best country in the world.

The programme ended with a patriotic song by Mrs. Suma.
