Department of MSc. Bioinformatics organised a one-day hands-on workshop for students of BSc Zoology, University College Mangaluru and Sri Venkataramana Swamy College Bantwal, on May 17.
During the inaugural ceremony Director Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto stressed that bioinformatics subject had gained importance post-covid. Mrs Anushree Raj added her note on how students could choose their career after completion of bioinformatics course and gave a brief on the programme schedule.
The firstsession was an introduction tobioinformatics and its tools by Ms Anushree Raj, coordinator,department of Bioinformatics followed by an activity session and hands on practical session by staff and first year students of Bioinformatics department.
There were 41 students of second year Zoology accompanied by three staff members -Dr Nagarathna and Mrs Srujana from University College Mangaluru and Mr Supreet K from SVS College Bantwal. The workshopprovided a brief introduction to bioinformatics, tools, applications and career scope, along with hands on experienceto explore bioinformatics tools. The winners of the activity were rewarded. Participantsshared positive feedbackand expressed a deep sense of enthusiasm.
