‘Unboxing AI: A medical practitioner’s perspective’, a faculty development programme (FDP) for doctors, dentists, PG students and interns of medical institutions was inaugurated on September 20 here at AIMIT campus of St Aloysius College (Deemed to be University), Mangalore.

(Dr) Fr Melwyn D’Cunha SJ, Dean, Research and Innovation, SAC inaugurated the FDP. Speaking on the occasion, Fr D’Cunha emphasised the need for not losing the physical touch and care when using the AI tools.

Dr Balu P.S., Director, Centre for Digital Health, Artificial Intelligence, Research and Training, Basaveshwara Medical College & Hospital, Chitradurga spoke about the various AI tools available these days that could be used by doctors in the clinical settings.

Director of AIMIT, (Dr) Fr Melwyn Pinto SJ spoke on the role of AI in various walks of life and its importance in today’s world. Earlier, Dr Hemalatha, Dean of IT, AIMIT, welcomed the gathering.

The FDP was restricted to 15 participants and the resource persons for this workshop are Dr Sudhir Prabhu, Professor and HOD, Department of Community Medicine, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore; Dr Balu P. S, Mr Lanwin Lobo, Director, Data Science and ML, MResult Service Private Ltd and Dr S. Ruban, Associate Professor and HOD, PG Dept. of Software Technology, AIMIT.

The workshop is being organised by AIMIT and coordinated by Dr S. Ruban. This is the first time such a workshop is organised for equipping healthcare professionals on AI tools in the state of Karnataka.
