The Nativity of Mother Mary ‘Monti Fest’ was celebrated at AIMIT on September 7. The Holy Mass was offered by the secretary and treasurer of Mangalore Jesuit Education Society, Fr Cyril D’Mello SJ.

In his feast day message, Fr D’Mello said that the Nativity of Mother Mary is also celebrated as ‘girl child day’. “Mother Mary is a model for all of us and especially to girl children. It is important that we make efforts to protect the dignity of girl children,” he said.

Referring to the family feast that is celebrated in Mangalore, Fr D’Mello added that Monti Fest unites the family. “Traditionally, the new corns were blessed and sent to all family members residing outstation. We remember all family members and pray that Mother Mary bless us all,” he said.

Earlier, new corns were blessed by the main celebrant. The staff members offered flowers to Mother Mary. Payasam and sugar cane were distributed among all.
