A group of MSc Bioinformatics students, comprising first-year and some final-year students, participated in their industrial visit programme from February 5 to 10 in Pune. They attended a symposium named ‘Accelerating biology’ held at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC), Pune. This event provided students with valuable insights into the latest advancements in the field, fostering their intellectual curiosity and understanding. Some students even had the opportunity to showcase their own research through poster presentations, gaining valuable experience in scientific communication.

Beyond the symposium, the programme offered a glimpse into the inner workings of CDAC. Students toured the facilities, gaining first hand exposure to ongoing projects and the diverse work undertaken by the organisation. This provided a practical perspective on the application of bioinformatics in real-world scenarios.

Students also had the privilege of witnessing the impressive power of PARAM Brahma, the supercomputer series housed at IISER Pune. Scientists at the Institute further enriched the experience by sharing their expertise and highlighting the exciting career prospects for bioinformaticians in the present and the future.

The final leg of the journey took the students to the University of Pune. Accompanied by Dr Hemalatha N (Dean IT), Dr Shine P Varkey, and Ms Christina, the students gained valuable knowledge and experience that will shape their academic and professional pursuits.
