The IT department of AIMIT, St Aloysius College (Deemed to be University), Mangalore conducted internal Hackathon as part of the Smart India Hackathon 2023 on September 23 at AIMIT campus.

The Hackathon was inaugurated by Dr (Fr) Praveen Martis SJ, Principal of SAC In his address, he reflected upon the humble beginning of ISRO on a seashore village named Thumbha near Trivandrum, and how this journey has now resulted in a great success story like Chandrayaan-3, which the whole nation is proud of.

The guest of honor Aboobacker Fayaz who works as a software engineer in Novigo Solutions Pvt. Ltd. elaborated his Journey in AIMIT. He spoke about the opportunities provided in the college which helped him convert ideas into reality. He also spoke about his experiences when he was working at Tata Consultancy services.

In his presidential address Dr (Fr) Kiran Cotha SJ, Finance Officer of AIMIT, spoke about the importance of thinking out-of-box, and how it can help students to turn their idea into a product and do great things.

Earlier, Dr S. Ruban (SPOC, Smart India Hackathon 2023) elaborated the goals and purpose of this programme and he also mentioned that this is the first time a Hackathon is conducted in the campus, and this programme is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve some of the pressing problems face in daily lives, and thus inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem solving.

Following the programme, presentations took place at various venues. Aboobacker Fayaz, Stewert Olivera, a software engineer from Niveus Solutions and Thomas George, an employee of Novigo Solutions, served as jury members.

More than 40 ideas were presented and the best ones will be sent for the national level competition. Dr Hemalatha, Dean IT, was present.
