‘Unboxing AI: Engaging with healthcare professionals and medical data’, a two-day hands-on workshop for IT students of St Joseph’s University, Bangalore was held on February 15-16. This is the third such programme organised on the same topic this year at AIMIT campus.

Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto SJ, Director AIMIT, inaugurated the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasised the change that is happening in society through technology and spoke on the role of AI in various walks of life and its importance in today’s world. Dr Hemalatha, Dean of IT, AIMIT, welcomed the gathering.

Fifty-two participants took part in this hands-on training workshop. The resource persons were Lanwin Lobo, director, Data Science and Machine Learning, MResult Service Private Ltd; Sumit who is working as a principal data scientist in Dubai and author of the book ‘Applied deep learning and computer vision for self driving cars’; Varena Vinay, data scientist and Dr S. Ruban, associate professor and HOD, Software Technology department, AIMIT.

Participants also visited the urban health centre, Jeppu and had a practical experience of using AI tools in patient care.

The workshop was organised and coordinated by Dr S Ruban, Suchetha Vijay and Roshan Suvaris, faculty members of the IT department.
